Appreciate the perspective from Germany.
Fair to say ZEV legislation changes around the world will mandate increased demand for graphite, lithium & cobalt. Interesting that changes to Germany's domestic legislation killing off diesel and German car-makers' market share in China threatened by ZEV Mandate for 2018.
With the exception of Tesla, majority of car makers need a shove from Government to act.
Simply have too much invested in mechanical engineering to drive rapid transition themselves.
Interesting paragraph in your link to ZEV mandates:
"A similar situation arose in Hong Kong earlier this year when German officials plead with Hong Kong regulators to increase plug-in hybrid incentives in order for German automakers to compete with Tesla, which currently has about 80% market share of Hong Kong’s electric vehicle market."
In Hong Kong & China few months ago and struck by sheer number of Tesla's in HK. Sharp contrast to electric scooter uptake on southern mainland. Different wealth demographics but still converging on EV adoption via emissions regulation.
Hard for Daimler to compete if you look at costs ex Tax:
