They are still all in undesirable locations well outside major cities not supported with infrastructure like being linked via high speed rail. They are cheap for a reason just like the $1 houses in remote Italian villages.
A few youtubers/influencers are documenting the process of restoring the houses but they really have little use cases for someone outside that niche. No different to buying a house in an abandoned mining town in Australia.
