I saw a Gloria Jeans just come up for sale in my area and I thought to myself, would I buy that given all the information we have on hand now. I can't help but say "NO".
The brand damage is in the saleability of the franchises. If they are deemed an unsalable item then why on earth would new franchisees buy in?
These are the types of businesses you buy because they are easily traded. You figure 'hey I can always get out whenever I want if it's not working'.
Well that belief has been utterly shattered.
