Both companies bought assets in Argentina last year. Matthews said Stausholm’s replacement would need to continue the trend, despite the challenges of working in frontier jurisdictions.

“It will be important that the board consider a CEO that is able and willing to realise the opportunities to mine in more complex and challenging parts of the world whilst combining that with an unwavering commitment to prove that this can be done responsibly,” he said.
