I should have added, a mining licence will have a number of terms & conditions, including duration of the licence (mining licences have expiry dates with provision to extend as well as a notice period if the owner of the asset (Manono) chooses not to renew the licence. It's never been clear what those terms & conditions would have been. To say that we have virtual ownership of Manono is technically not correct. An example close to home is Woodside. They're seeking approval from the Govt to continue gas production at North West Shelf beyond 2030. While Woodside has spent billions drilling & building the infrastructure to produce the gas, the Australian Govt, as the owner of the resource, could say no to the extension of the mining/operational permit beyond 2030. An aside, all indications suggests Murray Watt will approve the extension but there may be conditions re production levels, reservation for domestic use, emissions countering initiatives, etc. Cheers.
