#DRC $AVZ: Important development for investors (and Congolese).
DRC and Tanzania just agreed to build dry ports in their respective nations. Tanzania's will be in Kalemie - a 6-7 hr drive (during dry season from June to September in this part of DRC) from Manono and DRCs main port in the East of the country.
For Congolese importers/exporters, a Kalemie Dry Port will fairly dramatically reduce import/export costs as goods going to/from Tanzania's port in Dar Es Salaam will avoid customs there and instead occur in Kalemie. And because DRC is a member the East African Community (@jumuiya) most goods sourced from within the community are free from tarrifs.
Investors in eastern/southern DRC now have three import/export routes with Congo - via Dar in Tanzania, via Lobito in Angola, via Durban in South Africa.
More transport options= more bargains with transporters = lower transport costs = more profits.
Finally, this also provides eastern DRC a cheaper way to export/import via country it trusts (Tanzania) as the traditional route to Dar is via two countries it has very bad relations with - Rwanda and Uganda.
Kalemie is in Tanganyika province and Mssr Kitungwa is its, very pro-business, Governor.
