Been wondering about this for at least 10 years.
The hollowing out of Australias skill base - particularly in manufacturing (cars) seemed to be intentional from certain political sectors.
Dig it & ship it seems to be about to be seriously challenged if this News Corp article has any merit.
Having worked at a high level in manufacturing & mining, I've got to be honest, we are not ready for an economy where our dirt no longer demands a premium.
