Americans truly believe they are the benefactors of the rest of the world.
In reality they are the lowest contributor in terms of their GDP.
A decade or so of angry whining right wing talkback radio and a profound ignorance of their own country let alone the rest of the world has completly deluded them.
The question is - will they recover from this damaged condition and if not, what will be the consequences for the rest of the world?
