The trouble is not with individuals, the trouble is with the system. The New Testament is full of benign, loving wisdom, but that didn't stop the Inquisition, witch-burnings or the later Crusades. That's the stage Islam is at today.
Cherry picking verses from any religious text is, however, misleading.
Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your disposal so that you can strike terror into the enemies of Allah and of the believers and others besides them who may be unknown to you, though Allah knows them. And remember whatever you spend for the cause of Allah shall be repaid to you. You shall not be wronged.— Quran 8:60 [69]
