Rudd was non aligned to any faction and he gave some short thrift. Those he clashed with then opted for a power play to install a factional player as leader so they set out to undermine him in which they succeeded but laughably had to eat humble pie when then begged him to come back.

The same game was played with Abbott who was undermined until he sunk and the way things are going there is every chance the same will happen to Turnbull as happened to him when he was Opposition leader. The divisions are there and its a numbers game. The sniping will continue and if the polls continue to favour Labor another spill could be on the cards or even a fresh election.

On Rudd it appears Malcolm actually thought he was suitable, if its true that he reportedly said he was as one with Julie Bishop on the issue. He never-the-less decided to go the other way and claim the opposite after obviously a split Cabinet on the matter. So people like Alexander Downer, Brendan Nelson, Richard Woolcott, Julie Bishop, George Brandis and others have been ignored by Turnbull on this.

Rudd’s bid is over but he will likely not take this lightly, particularly if he feels he is being wrongly discredited due to the shenanigans and divisions within the govt.

If, Rudd’s account is the truth then he has every right to scream from the rooftops imo.
