    Tippett finally a Swan
By Adam McNicol 11:05am AEDT Tuesday, December 11, 2012

After a protracted and controversial saga, Kurt Tippett is finally a Swan
KURT Tippett is finally a Sydney Swan after the former Adelaide big man was selected by the reigning premiers with pick 11 in Tuesday's NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

Former Carlton key position player Bret Thornton was selected by Greater Western Sydney with the first pick in the draft, while Nick Joyce, who had to be delisted while Tippett's contract saga was playing out, was redrafted by the Crows.

Two others rejoined their old clubs, with the Giants taking back veteran ruckman Dean Brogan and Fremantle redrafting midfielder Jesse Crichton.

Tippett, who played 104 games and kicked 188 goals for the Crows between 2008 and 2012, had placed a hefty price on his head so that he would not be taken before the Swans had their first selection.

It is believed the financial terms nominated by Tippett state that he will be handed a four-year $3.55 million contract, although it remains unclear whether he will lose money because he can't make his debut for the Swans until halfway through next season.

The 25-year-old recently was handed an 11-game suspension for draft tampering and salary cap breaches relating to his last contract with Adelaide, which he signed at the end of the 2009 season.

Only eight players were chosen in the pre-season draft as a number of clubs passed on their picks.

Former Geelong and Essendon midfielder Brent Prismall, who had been training with the Western Bulldogs after a brief stint with Port Adelaide, was ignored.

Prismall even missed out on a rookie spot when the Dogs decided to go with Adam Goodes' 28-year-old brother Brett instead.

Western Australian youngster Dayle Garlett, who had been training with Essendon, was also ignored in the pre-season and the rookie drafts.

And Josh Toy, who was one of the highly-touted 17-year-olds taken by Gold Coast in 2010, failed to find a new footballing home.

However, plenty of recycling did take place in the rookie draft.

Collingwood selected former Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions ruckman Ben Hudson, who turns 34 in February.

The Magpies also rookie-listed Peter Yagmoor, who was recently dumped from the club's senior list.

Richmond also added some recycled talent by selecting former Melbourne forward Ricky Petterd, ex-Essendon midfielder Sam Lonergan and former Geelong ruckman Orren Stephenson.

Hawthorn chose former Collingwood big man Jonathon Ceglar, while West Coast took former Melbourne midfielder Jamie Bennell.

The Swans and the Brisbane Lions both chose to pre-select rookies under the rules that given them access to players from NSW and Queensland.

Brandon Jack, the brother of premiership midfielder Kieren Jack, was pre-selected by the Swans, while the Lions added Jordon Bourke, whose father Damian played 124 games for Geelong and the Brisbane Bears, to their rookie list.

In addition, the Swans added another family tie to their club by selecting Xavier Richards, whose brother Ted played a key role in the Grand Final win over Hawthorn.
