KUTh turns up the heat on Fiji geothermal acreage.

AUSTRALIAN geothermal explorer KUTh Energy is chasing the power of hot springs in Fiji having submitted four geothermal exploration licence applications to the government.

The applications cover areas around natural hot springs and similar geology that is located close to transmission lines.

Kuth exploration manager Dr Graeme Wheller said the Fiji electricity authority is seeking to replace as much of the nation’s diesel power generation as possible with renewable energy.

“Applying for tenements in Fiji is the first tangible step in KUTh’s Pacific Region Strategy,” KUTh chairman Dr John Bishop said.

“We see geothermal power as a viable emissions-free substitute for diesel fuel power generation in the region.”

KUTh has more than 14,000 square kilometres of Tasmanian acreage, which it is actively exploring for geothermal energy generation and for direct-use heating and drying applications.
