Commentary from the session:
Davey urged to consider Parker Annex for Second tower
Extract:"
"Gradually, this thing will all come together, and everything will snowball," Davey said.
When asked how many jobs the facility would provide, Davey said there would be about 1,000 jobs during construction, and 40 to 50 permanent jobs once the plant is completed.
La Paz County District 2 Supervisor John Drum said this sounded like an ideal project for the county.
"It's definitely a plus if we can provide jobs for the unemployed in this county," he said.
La Paz County Courts Administrator and Chief Probation Officer Rich Tozer asked Davey if the company had done any studies on the social impacts of the plant, specifically what affect the influx of construction workers and their families would have on schools, the courts and law enforcement.
Davey replied they have commissioned a study to examine those issues.
Parker Community Development Director Guy Gorman asked if they had considered using the La Paz County Career Center as a place to hire and train local residents for the facility. Davey said they definitely wanted to hire local people, and he would look into the career center.
When Davey said they were considering more than one project in La Paz County, Gorman urged them to consider Parker Annex. He noted there is plenty of land there, as well as access to a Western Area Power Authority transmission line.
When asked what EnviroMission wanted from the county, Davey said they could use a letter of support from the Board of Supervisors in their negotiations for land, financing and access to transmission lines."
