Totally agree TB.. Troponin is where it's at for many reasons, but the main one is, heart disease is a western ill that unfortunately shows no signs of abating. through the effects of globalisation, ever increasing sedentary lifestyles and the developing worlds thirst to import all things western, chronic cardio vascular disorders will become more and more prevalent in nations where they were not on such a scale as the once were. It's funny that the Ebola virus gets the headlines isn't it? It really says something about the human condition, the 24 hour news cycle and the way we all ingest our news bites these days. I don't want to discount the suffering and mourning caused to the people of West Africa from the Ebola virus, but how many lives were lost to Ebola last year compared to those by heart disease in just this country?? I'll tell you something if you don't know do a simple google search starting with 'how many lives.. yada yada.. Ebola last year?' And then do the same for heart disease, you'll be gob smacked. This western ailment absolutely dwarfs any of these exotic, headline grabbing viruses or flus to point where if you look comparatively at the data Ebola, Swine flu and the like hardly even exist. But the crux of it is, is that entire generations of a populace slowly having their collective arteries clogged by Dominos, KFC, Maccas and the like every night whilst they sit on the couch and watch 'game of thrones' with a beam and coke, Tooheys or Miami wine cooler isn't NEWS, it's not a headline. However a virus that can sweep through a village in a far off exotic land and kill people in the most horrendous ghastly fashion is... And that is not to say that it shouldn't be a headline, but the sense of perspective here is seriously awry that is my somewhat longwinded point.
