I needed to buy a machine from this bloke for $16k and wanted a tax invoice. Instead I got the story of how he avoided paying GST. Evidently if a business turns over less than $50k a year, it doesn't have to be registered for GST. By the way, I most certainly am not an accountant. NO, NO, NO!!!

The person I was dealing with told me his accountant had set up the four businesses. It doesn't seem ethical to me and I don't deal with him any more.

I did operate under the Sales Tax regime. In some dusty file somewhere I still have my original sales tax exemption certificate but I'm not expecting to ever need it again. Fortunately I didn't have to collect sales tax myself.
