I am an Electrician and never been a member of the CFMEU
I have seen some intimidating actions by them and generally do not support the tactics they use.
YES I benefitted from the halycon days of unions raising the Award wages back in the day. Not really applicable today though.
Now this recent action by Labour to throw the CFMEU under the bus really concerns me. Not because I benefitted back in the 80s from them. But because I recognise we need checks and balances. Without a strong union. NOT BULLIES, government will allow multi nationals to just run over construction workers. and see conditions erode.
There has to be a balance. I feel that Some construction sites it was normal to carry out 4 hours work a day for 10 hours pay. So yes the CFMEU did need to be pulled back. Getting rid of them completely worries me.
