Troy Bramston, former President of NSW Young Labor and also past Secretary and Vice President of the NSW Fabian Society. He was an advisor to PM Rudd and has a typical background of the sort of people who have taken over the Labor party - inner city latte sippers.

In an article in today's Australian newspaper he says (as previously) that the Qld result is symbolic of the systemic crisis at the core of modern Labor. The party is struggling to work out what it stands for, what it wants to achieve and whom it represents. (Maybe he is overlooking that people like him are part of the problem.)

He then goes on to talk about the Ashgrove campaign saying that Campbell Newman should have won it by a much bigger swing than 10%. The state wide swing is more than 15%.

He explains this result by citing the work of the "independent,non-profit organisation Campaign Action". This apparently started working for the ALP in July 2010. Based on techniques developed by a US Senator, the group trained and activated volunteers to work for Kate Jones, the Labor candidate. There is more detail in the article of what was done in the campaign.

It would be interesting to know who was funding this so called INDEPENDENT organisation. Bramston reckons that the Ashgrove campaign is the way of the future for Labor.
