Firstly, I am not a right winger. I am a Libertarian. My views on decriminalisation of drugs, no warfare except in cases where another country can possibly invade us, and the number of legitimate refugees I am happy to take each and every year would be to the 'left' of you and even the Greens.
Secondly, there is legislation ready to go. It is currently being used as a threat to media organisations to accept further regulation and oversight by Gillard.
I forgot to mention the AGs (Roxon) proposal to enforce all internet providers to keep records of every mouse click for two years. Legislation has already been drafted.
I also forgot to mention the Alan Jones case where ACMA 'got' him because they felt he was interviewing too many climate change skeptics.
Then we have the twittering cases in the AFL.
There is a systemic attack on our free speech and free speech is the cornerstone of any democracy.
As for your position of kicking up a fuss when legislation is before Parliament...bit late then isnt it?
