This is not related to the desal plant, but it shows what some had to put up with during the drought, and why Victoria's water supplies (outside Melbourne) needed investment to deliver basic drinking water to Victorian towns.
During the drought, this was the state of the water we were getting in parts of Victoria, unfortunately you can't experience the smell from the picture.
Water supplies that were so bad, you couldn't even shower or wash clothes. The town lined up at the local caravan park to shower with tanked in water.
This town has now for the first time in over 100 years of its existence, been supplied with drinkable water as of the middle of this year.
