An investigation of Anthony Albanese’s official disclosures to parliament shows the Labor leader has accepted dozens of free tickets to sporting events and concerts, charging taxpayers for travel to cities on several occasions.

Labor leader and self-proclaimed battlers’ champion Anthony Albanese has clocked up almost $20,000 on travel accommodation to A-list sporting freebies, raising the eyebrows of his ALP colleagues.

The Opposition Leader has accepted A-list seats at seven AFL grand finals, seven years at the Australian Open, four NRL grand finals, two Melbourne Cups and seven international cricket fixtures since 2009.

In the same period he has accepted free tickets to 23 concerts, opera and theatre events, while the rugby league fanatic was able to take free tickets to two State of Origin games in 2019, a series which his Blues won 2-1.

Parliamentary travel records show that taxpayers picked up the bill for his accommodation and flights to Melbourne for five of the AFL grand finals and five trips to the grand slam tennis.
