What's the problem? If people like these instruments they should be allowed to play with them, its all about individual liberty. We shouldn't be taking the lead from the US and banning what they do. Different tools can suit different markets.

CFD's are nothing more than a bet with one player which is fine but they have no economic interest in the actual shares and the house often enters the market and puts hedges on (either way) to manipulate the SP to avoid having to pay out,,,this affects those that actually own the shares,,,,they are banned in the USA for good reason...plus if you look in the fine print they are also banned on consumer protection grounds,,,,all punter funds are pooled (just like opes) and if one of these players were to falter, bang everyone loses....they also have many restrictions on them in the UK as they are have been linked to many insider trading situations....personally I dont like people with no skin in the game affecting someone elses game, even the AUS government(yes we are still waiting) are preparing an Amendment to the Corporations Act (short selling )to amoungst other things close the CFD non reporting loophole which occurs when the house manipulates a share in the market to limit its exposire to CFD bets..
