In regional/rural areas (excluding regional cities) like where I live 3 grand a week would be a fortune. You would probably be living in the best house in town and have every mod-con available. But if you were trying to pay off an house in central Sydney you would most likely barely be able to feed yourself. Income is all relative to your cost of living.
