1) Your high electricity prices are not due to renewables. It's due to the repeated failure of governments to secure fuel supply for generators. Over here in the West we've got comparably low gas prices because when approving exploration and development permits our state Liberal govt at the time mandated that a set percentage of gas had to be retained for local supply. So our gas generators pay a small fraction of what gas generators do in the Eastern states. Our system is so much better there's even been talk of building a west-east gas pipeline so we can supply your market with the cheaper stuff.
The failure of new generation to offset retired generation would be largely due to the inability of the current govt to settle on clear policy thereby giving investment clarity to the private sector. That's not an isolated issue, we've seen similar issues across infrastructure and manufacturing when policy has been short sighted or frequently contested.
The increases we've seen over here during our 'boom' years has reflected the investment in the networks after several decades of under-investment. Without citing data, I am led to believe we've seen far more stabilisation of prices since 2013.

You say that you can't listen to anything that AEMO says but the article you posted is from our Federal govt (always a reliable source) but actually references the Australian Energy Regulator? Seems to place your statement in conflict.

But regardless of this, you still haven't addressed my question as to why only NZ is the only other developed country with this tax structure in place?
