Thank you Dan! I am one of the newer generations and I am dismayed at the attitude of my contemporaries. Rude behaviour, selfishness, no thought for the future, and no manners. I can't say I'm innocent of these myself.
But whenever I've needed the union, they've either not cared or they've sided with their employer. One of my old union delegates was also a Labor staffer. She was a shocking example! When I came to her with a complaint, her more than likely response would be "well that's the way it is and you just have to accept it!" or " the union is the membership...the days where unions make a presence is over...members must find their own way when they get into trouble". So what what were the f------- fees for then? To keep them financial stable and help them into plumb political jobs.
Who needs unions? I'd rather have a bastard boss and deal directly with him, than have a bastard boss and a union with whom I pay fees to both to contend with as well!
