Not a big believer in outside dogs especially if you only have one. They are pack animals and need to feel part of the pack. To ostracise them at sleep time causes various problems if you want a socialised dog imo. Why do outside dogs howl and bark so much?
Mind you we did end up getting a king size bed to allow the dog and two cats to fit on it.
