If the deal is above board and there are no side deals I find it very hard to believe that COP will forgo urgently needed cash and JV cash outflows for a zero gain game. Now if COP has something to hide and the threat of creditors breathing down their neck and potentially another $100M in jv expenditure does not phase them then I suppose that option is open to them but I seriously doubt this outcome.
