The path towards politics, mostly as a dogged fighter for the rights of injured veterans, began when she was given work by former Labor senator Nick Sherry as part of her rehab in 2008.
She later turned her hand to Liberal Party politics.
But according to an interview published in The Australian, Ms Lambie feels she was “duped” and “used” by the party during its preselection process. “I felt used and soon resigned from the Liberal Party,” she said.
Ms Lambie started campaigning for a Tasmanian senate seat as an independent last year and later joined the Palmer United Party.
Mr Palmer’s extensive resources helped propel her into Tasmania’s sixth seat.
