This bull started on March 6th 2009 so in the scheme of things a second top in another 2 or 3 months is short term. Of course it doesn't feel like it will happen today which is why there is such market carnage.....people are trading according to how they feel today. But mark my words. Someone in the US will do something fairly soon to try to put a floor under this. Maybe it will be a promise from the Fed to keep interest rates on hold for another year.

The one caveat I would make though is that this theory applies to big stocks and specs with genuine prospects. We have seen a lot of rubbish stocks lift in the recent euphoria. My experience is that this type of event we are currently in will kill them dead and they won't be joining the rest of the market for any meaningful recovery.
