Have a look at the following link which is a NSW EPA report prepard By ANSTO on the Kelly's Bush site in Hunter Hill Sydney.

    http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/clm/KellysBush.pdf

This old Tin mine produced Uranium, Thorium and Potassium 40 in its slag which was then used as road base and is present at the site which is now a park.

The report is interesting in that it discusses the fact that there is no need to repatriate the site or the roadways and there is no risk to the public or workers from the materials.

Also the information presented discusses that thorium and uranium are present in common garden soil, more on NORM and how they assessed the levels of both uranium and thorium from this waste that has been used in road base as safe.

The really interesting takeaway is that if there was a risk of contamination by Thorium it would be at the mine site in WA.

The product is concentrated in WA before being shipped to Kuantan and it is there that the highest potential for exposure occurs as there is an increased presence of dust in that process that may contain Thorium however the levels of that material are considered safe enough for those processes to operate in Australia under EPA regulations.

So what are the Malaysian haters (SMSL, HH) whinging and whining about?

More risk of exposure here than Kuantan you fools!!

And it is perfectly safe to send the byproduct with lower levels of thorium that those present in Hunters Hill (Central Sydney is more highly populated than Kuantan) to road based aggregate.

Also given that the Kelly's Bush aggregate had higher levels of both Thorium and Uranium the tests prove that years after using this as road base there is NO HARMFUL EXPOSURE detected by Australias lead nuclear agency and they found that no remediation of the land was necessary.

Its just so much BS that those Malaysian NGO's have made up really.

And the processing to road aggregate is OK, its a proven solution in Australia so its not like we are forcing some experiment on the population over there is it.

And as for land prices, go try and buy a block in Hunters Hill and you wont get much change from a million bucks.
