I thought this too and posted in a thread where someone mentioned illegal RE mining in Malaysia by a Chinese national. I dont think its a case of premeditated kicking out, more Lynas getting pressure, then once they leave and a Chinese company moves in after and benifits from the industry knowledge etc.
I think the EV firms with interest in Malaysia is probably not related. The Chinese market for EVs is so competitive, Chinese companies need to start selling to the rest of the world with production outside China. This will probably benefit Lynas' plight in Malaysia as it would be a bad look for a government selling the industry there to have Lynas walk out.
