As Australia’s Lynas weighs its Malaysia operations’ future, a US rare earths option emerges

Lynas’ CEO says she’s optimistic Malaysia can be persuaded to review its hardline position on operations that produce radioactive by-products

Malaysia’s lower production costs and strategic location give it an edge over Texas, Lynas’ other option, where ‘rare earth tourism’ is also a risk

I would say there are fractures in the Malaysian political fault line, in regards to to the licensing agreement of the LAMP.

It is simply unrealistic that the world is hungry for processed RE oxides, and Malaysia wants to bulldoze our entire facility. I think their position was always nothing more than posturing, and that they are on the wrong side of history.

Additionally, Lynas would not make such statements unless they felt a shift in the political wind, moving towards a favorable outcome our long term positioning of our LAMP in Malaysia.
