If look where all the money has been made in Australia it's been predominantly in property & mining, aside from a few one offs in media & packaging etc. Globally it used to be banking, property, oil & transport before the age of the internet.
Watched the Monaco GP at the weekend, new apartments being built there are going for 70m EUR each. Nowadays there are the mega rich & then there is everyone else.
The only way you get really rich with shares is if you own the company & it floats on the US markets, the rest is just make pocket change.
Each to their own. Happiness is wanting what you have, not wanting what you haven't got. I made my money & retired young, I'm happy with my lot in life.
