Smaller cheaper housing as per Germany is the only answer that makes the mathematics work.
Can't have 2 acre blocks and mansions unless you are very thick as a solution.
Lots of people may not want small house in the long term but if they aspire to more than they can learn about minimalism to save and also investing to eventually get better housing under their own steam.
