The table extremely under-estimates demand for spherical graphite by wrongly and implicitly assuming 100% conversion rate from natural graphite flakes to spherical graphite. 50% conversion rate is more realistic. Therefore, these numbers should be doubled. or instance a vehicle with a 20kwh battery recquire 20kg of spherical graphite but 40 kg of natural flakes graphite. 2 tonnes of natural flakes graphite are needed to produce 1 tonne of spherical graphite due to the spheronization process (cutting and shaping the flakes to create spheres).

It is funny that spheronization machines are also used in pharmaceutical industry to shape our medicines. what pharmaceutical companies do with the waste materials ? maybe they reuse it ? it is interesting to know ! for graphite it seems the waste material is resold as a lower purity / smaller mishaped irregular flakes (less price per tonne) or micronized further and sold as extremely small less than 10microns graphite.
