You are confusing wealth with ability. Some of the wealthiest people I know are quite unintelligent. Being in the right place at the right time often determines financial success. Luck plays a very big role.
For example, Ken Talbot got "lucky" in coal. Born at the right time in history in that the Asian demand coincided with his foray into coal. He admits he got very lucky and it had little to do with any business acumen.
