Wouldn't get it done myself. If you get an infection in one eye, then you can end up blind in both eyes.
Asked an optometrist friend about laser corrections (2007) and she said the most commonly seen drawback is the need to instill eye drops/lubricants due to dry eyes.
My sight seems to have been deteriorating since around nine years of age...don't know why people think that it ever stabilizes, apart from perhaps the 40's, simply because your eyes stiffen with aging.
If you are already myopic (short sighted), then your distance vision should improve after the 40's, but at the same time you will find it more and more difficult to focus close up and will need multifocals. Long sighted individuals will find that their close vision just gets worse and people who've never needed lenses before will find they need 'reading glasses'.
So when is it that your prescription would stabilize enough to have laser correction? Wouldn't you find you need follow up treatments down the track somewhat like those who have face lifts.
