Do you know your prescription? In short sighted people the more negative it is, the more cornea they have to burn off. I was -7 each eye, and now they tell me they do not recomend anyone that short sighted to have the operation.
Burn off is the operative word...the smell of your own eye balls burning is..horrible. Recently i had to have cataracts removed and synthetic lenses inserted. Cataracts can occur as a result of trauma to the eyes, and are common in older people over 45. The new synthetic lenses are great, and the "accomodating" ones can flex to allow reading as well as distance vision. In the aging eye the lens hardens and the muscle cannot bend it to focus close up. When the lens is removed and a flexible lens inserted the brain can be taught to instruct the muscle to start working again and flex the lens. Although this is not the same as the laser operation, it can be a viable and safer option to laser. I can elaborate if anyone is interested.
