Ok guys after doing some limited reading (thanks homebrew), it would appear that SYN and ARR arent even really in direct competition.

You are right senator it is like comparing chalk and cheese because the SYN tech is more akin to the Texas and Sony light source techs and hence is probably in direct competition with them. ARR provides a light source, SYN provides an engine? (not sure if that is explained totally correctly)

The SYN light engine stats look impressive (as shown on page 13 of the pres that homebrew directed me to)

Significant improvements in switching time and great resolution. Looks like it would be a good product and I could see someone like a TI taking an interest in the company?

The only problem with that pres that I see is that most of the benefits offered to the digital cinema area will be already taken care of with Necsel and DLP etc.
High cost of chips come down with Necsel manufacturing; complex prism/projector construction is removed; light throughput is resolved; expensive light source resolved as is the heat issue.

Where I believe the bonus that the SYN tech offers is in both resolution and switching (which according to the SYN presentation is more important than resolution). I presume the switching speed has to do with smooth fluid motion and resolving any gosting problems at high resolutions?? If someone knows the actual reason please enlighten us as I would be interested.

So senator I think your downramping of ARR that I noticed in the ARR area is a little unjunstified. My take is that the two techs could really compliment each other. ARR may even be a good production partner for your tech given the significant plant and infrastructure already in place.

Please people if I have ballsed my analysis up let me know. All of this crazy tech is really new to me so I am really trying to wrap my head around it at the moment.
