Balzig, any investment is risky. Personally, I'd rather have stocks (but not GDN) than money in the bank from a risk point of view atm. If it had worked for Bdog then he'd be a genius.
tcf, I disagree, I think we are on our way to DOW 1500, with little scope to the upside.
Baz, I feel for you, but you just don't know what is round the corner. I was in a similar situation twenty years ago; company had gone bust, house gone, car broken down - major difference was I could move back in with parents. Don't let them grind you down!
