    @Joannie - I know what you mean about Vangelis' sound - he and Demis Roussos started off together in France, Paris, had a band called 'Aphrodite's Child' (Roussos was still slim then) - they broke up after 6 years or so and Roussos did his own, somewhat 'trashy' thang . . . IMO only of course - but became very popular in Europe. Vangelis wrote some amazing music, but is part of the modern tradition of electronic music - his most well-known one is possibly the film music to Chariots of Fire -
    I discovered him when I was in my fifties and used some of his music for a pantomime at the club where I was entertainment officer. He also wrote classical music in the modern electronic genre - amazing stuff.
