Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi and a delegation of county officials visited the Leyte Geothermal Production Field in the Philippines this week to learn about developing more geothermal energy on the Big Island.
The Sun Star reports Kenoi told officials in Ormoc City, which has a sister city relationship with Hawaii County, that the 200 megawatts generated by one geothermal plant he saw in the Philippines could generate enough energy to power the whole Big Island.
Puna Geothermal Venture, which operates a 38-megawatt plant in Puna, is currently the only geothermal company on the Big Island.
