Shortinghero, that opinion is often expressed but not one poster who expresses it has provided the supportive macroeconomic data to validate it - that's because it doesn't exist.

Despite its internal power struggles; Labor delivered Australia almost unscathed through the worst GFC in 80 years.

As of September 7th 2013 Credit Suisse found that Australians were the wealthiest people on Earth, ratings agencies awarded us that rare AAA rating, unemployment was 5.6%, GDP was growing at ~2.5%pa, debt had only risen to ~12% of GDP [~$170b] and PEFO projected the Budget Deficit for 2013-14 to come in at $30b with unemployment peaking at 6.2% in March 2014.

What devastated Australia was the manner in which Tony Abbott's Government set about trashing so many of its great big election promises; blaming like no other government in history [even in overseas forums], declaring war on the poor and the vulnerable and rewarding those who need it least from multinational mining corporations to multi-millionaires.

As if that wasn't enough Abbott's Government has also shredded the social fabric by denigrating millions of people as "leaners, loafers and bludgers" and by inciting Islamophobia and xenophobia. Then along came BronnieGate - our political smelling salt!
