Political parties urged to visit Lynas plant for accurate information

KUANTAN, May 29 (Bernama) -- Gerakan's special committee on Lynas urged organisations and political parties to visit the plant for accurate information following their satisfaction with explanation given by Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd regarding its operations today.

Committee chairman Datuk Dr Lim Thuang Seng said he will gather views from other experts before presenting the final report to the party's central committee next month.

"Radioactivity is not our main concern as our feedback and information shows that the level is low, however, our focus is on the extraction of rare earth which involves high amounts of chemicals," he said after leading a team of 10 Gerakan leaders on a visit to the Lynas plant in Gebeng, here today.

Committee members also attended a question-and-answer session which lasted almost five hours during which Dr Lim said experts clarified factory operations and related issues.

Meanwhile, Lynas Malaysia managing director Datuk Mashal Ahmad welcomed the Gerakan team's visit to the factory for information on their operations.

"We are extending this invitation to all organisations and political parties so that they can look at any relevant documents and bring along their own experts to do sampling at our project site," he said.
