AXIOM MINING Company Limited has issued a solid memorandum to deliver better development and benefits for landowners and people of Isabel province.
The memorandum was made as Axiom Mining Company is ready to kick off full scale mining operations on Isabel province.
In an interview with this paper, Chief Executive Officer of Axiom Mining Company Limited, Ryan Mount said Axiom will bring along other development apart from mining for land and resources owners.
He said Axiom is targeting not just one development but will tap other development opportunities like tourism, agriculture, education and fisheries to help landowners fully benefit from their resources.
Mr Mount said that landowners will not rely very much on royalties for family development as opportunities to generate income locally will be made available.
“We are also keen to help the landowners set up small businesses such as commercial vegetable gardens and fishing to supply to our camp.
“We have done this successfully on a small scale on our West Guadalcanal project and we look forward to doing this on a larger scale in Isabel,” he added.
Mount further explained that Axiom has a unique profit-sharing arrangement with the Kolosori and Bungusule landowners, as such, the profit sharing will give and provide landowner more than just monetary benefits.
“This was the intent of the Kolosori trustees when they approached us in 2010 to help them develop their land.
“As sought, a fair-minded miner, Axiom would like to recognise them as a partner and respect them as an equal.
“We agreed then that we would help them develop their land sustainably and we are honouring that commitment,” he added.
He stressed that the investment on Isabel is intergenerational and Axiom believes that the mine has the potential to run for generations to come with greater benefits for resources owners in the future.
He continues to say that Axiom will ensure that each generation reap rewards of mining operations and other investments in the future.
“We have strong support from shareholders across the world that recognises not only the value of the asset, but also Axiom's ability to develop the land in a respectful manner in partnership with local landowners.
“I personally met all of our largest shareholders and ensure that they understand that this project will be development with strong environmental standards and that we at all times remain respectful of the Isabel culture.
“We understand that mining has a long, but finite lifespan therefore we want to help the landowners establish other industries to sustain economic benefits for future generations, Mr Mount added.
He said more than 200 landowners have been employed and engaged in mining exploration in Isabel province at the moment with the number expecting to increase.
