Check out the industry heads that Ashley and the other
Black Coal Equivalent Industry players have been rubbing shoulders with just recently.
* Allison Jones, General Manager Economic Sustainability, Latrobe City Council
*Charlie Speirs, Director Clean Coal Victoria, Department of Primary Industries
Discussing Clean coal and its role in a carbon constrained future
- The enormous coal resource in Victoria
- The need to transition to a low CO2 Economy
- Technologies to achieve the goal
- The governments plan
* Dr Robin Francis, CEO of Cambridge Carbon Capture
Discussing
- Mineral carbonation ? An emerging economic option for CCS
- Mineralisation of CO2 as solid carbonates offers advantages over geological sequestration of CO2 at a global scale
- Australia is well resourced in the natural or waste feedstock materials required for CO2 mineralisation
- Ongoing development of lower-energy closed-loop mineralisation processes make this CCS approach economically feasible
- Co-production of useful carbonated mineral products & byproduct metals has potential to make CCS cost-neutral
- Very large volumes of feedstock and product materials make for significant logistical challenges
* Dr David Haarburger, Research Investment Manager, Brown Coal Innovation Australia Limited
* Chris Osborne, Geologist, Clean Coal Victoria, Minerals and Petroleum Division, Department of Primary Industries
AND as far as discussions go for export and haulage, noone can say that the key industry players are not considering the likelihoods, opportunities and threats for this industry. Everyone would know where they stand right now and what needs to be done in the future for the industry to go hard.
Obviously, it's only when you get to the pointy end of things that such discussions eventuate.
Over the next 5 yrs, i can see a lot of infrastructure development discussion so that Victoria can take full advantage of this new industry.
It's apparent that every facet of the industry (Govt. Pvt enterprise, Science and logistically speaking) is involved in the headstrong lobbying towards a State and Global BCE industry launch.
All the players in this industry are pledging their value to the DPI and i guess next on the list is an infrastructure renaissance, which is being assessed via these talks. In this way, it is a smart move to get a 2mt plant going so its capacity can be ramped up in line with forseeable infrastructure capacity upgrades between 2012 - 2017 roughly.
If you look at the two terms "build it and they will come" and "worry about your pennies and the Pounds will take care of themselves, one can see the financial/employment attraction and sensibility for Victorias DPI to get behind this industry and for the industry itself to take
baby-steps in unison with eachother, to amount to a greater end than just one company doing all the work for themselves via private industry.
cheers
