This video was taken (not by me) on 27 December so if most of the containers started their journey in Kewdale yards, Perth WA, they'd probably have left there on about 22 DEcember.
There's a lot more freight goes to Perth than originates there so these LAU railable containers may be largely empty, but needed in Brisbane or rural areas in Queensland for fruit, vegetables or other products to be carted south. They wouldn't be sent north just for fun.
Encouraging that as a low period approaches (post-Christmas, with some Australians overseas and many more not in their normal homes) that LAU has 13 containers on this Sydney to Brisbane intermodal train:
No Christmas break for these little profit centres.
