It's pleasing that this Melbourne to Perth express intermodal train - leaves Melbourne's South Dynon rail terminal at lunchtime on Fridays, and should be in Perth's Kewdale by very late on Sunday night as it's meant to depart Kalgoorlie at 1005 hours on Sunday mornings - has 14 identified LAU railable containers.
However the most interesting was at 0:17 (early on) as the third container conveyed on the train behind the locomotives only has the 'Linsday Rural' insignia. I don't know whether this is a former Scott's RF/Rand container on which Lindsay Australia hasn't had time to apply the full livery, or whether it's a secondhand container from a non-Scott's source.
Like Sydney-Perth westbound trains, these Melbourne-Perth trains convey an enormous amount of supermarket and numerous other goods destined for Perth, southwest WA and even the Pilbara with all those ravenous iron ore miners. An inventory of what's on board would doubtless reveal some items we don't think about much:
Given Christine Holgate's Team Global Express has terminated its major Pacific National contract and is starting to use listed AZJ, it's apparent what a major customer for PN LAU is becoming.
It also helps explain why despite a major SH in LAU probably continuing to reduce his exposure, the SP hasn't had a cataclysmic fall. To trade at A$1.31 remains pleasing.
