In the short term, like most transport operators, LAU may be adversely affected if there's a decline in orders, as Australia is seeing from retail stores in areas like apparel and perhaps hardware and other household goods where apparently some are overstocked.
I do not know whether in a recession, sales of fruit and vegetables cated by LAU suffer. If they're viewed as necessities, perhaps not, unless they are fancier fruits such as rambutans. One media article I glanced at claimed that over the years, apple sales had decreased due to competition from processed snack foods. On the other hand, doctors and nutritionists are continually suggesting we ought eat more fruit and especially vegetables. The latter may be important as the median age of Australians increases.
In the longer term, due to transport hauliers' gradual consolidation and expected population growth, LAU should be able to expand and with competent management, increase net profit after tax.
