I think that we are perceived as racist because we have made a joke of racism over the years. Comedy programs on TV was very prominent in doing that. Often a "racist" comment is made more of a term of endearment than an abuse, although it was and still is used as an adjective to abuse. Pom, Wog and Boong were often used among friends. In my flight in the Air Force I had mates called Pom, Wog and Boong. (My nick name was "Gravy".)
There is too much hullabaloo about all this political correctness rubbish. A lot of it is designed to mask the real problems behind immigration, law and order, the moral decline, the education debacle and other government failures.
