And I use the word "assimilate" loosely here, because much like southerns insistance that we use the word multiculturalism incorrectly (even though she goes in to define racial segregation), most people seem to use the word "assimilate" I correctly too. Assimilation is not a one way mechanism. Both cultures adopt traits from each other in order to form a stronger culture. This is how evolution ensures that societies dont just die out from genetic and innovative weakness.
Not sure if anyone understands this, but we did not assimilate with the aboriginals, so there is no merit to southern's argument. She is selling Disallowed.
The truth is infinitely more complex, but if you buy into it then you run the real risk of not having a clear opinion on "what is best" for our future.
As I said before, the best efforts at protectionism are the seeds for future wars. The cultures that survive the longest are the ones that allow strangeness to be assimilated into them. It's like cultural immunization, it ensures better genetics, better relations and broader resources.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying we need to adopt wholesale the values of the guest cultures. All I am saying is that southern's argument might come in nice packaging but is part its use by date. The "British" learned that lesson centuries ago. The British empire would never have existed if the country hadn't been for it's long and complex history of cultural hybridization, and really only fell over when it tried to go around stamping it's own brand in too many foreign footholds to manage effectively.

The aboriginals are MOST thankful that the British put their
stamp on the great country Australia.
Getting their A....s kicked up their back when one
of our guest cultures take a hold of them.
